My previous job was working in a travel agency in the city. I was working long hours for a low salary. When my first daughter Charlotte was born, I was leaving for work early in the morning and getting home after her bedtime. I was missing my daughter growing up and realized that something had to change.
My dad owned a small lawn mowing and gardening round called Thyme After Thyme. He asked if I was interested in joining his business. With a mortgage, my wife at home and a growing family this was a big decision.
I knew very little about gardening, machinery and towing trailers. There was a lot of un-knowns and we couldn’t afford for it not to work. I took the chance and learnt what I could about gardening from dad and used the internet to learn about the different varieties of plants and how to maintain them.
Over the years we build the business through referral work offering our customers a honest service with excellent value for money. We now have 100s of loyal customers
Dad is in his 70s now and probably should retire but his still works ride on mowing 5 days a week because he loves it.
Thyme after Thyme has breezed through some trying conditions such as the GFC and drought in the 2000s. Many gardening business folded in this period but due to the diversity of work we offer and our strong business model, these events hardly impacted our work volume.
